DRONES IN THE NEWS
In January 2025, DJI phased out its hard geofencing system in the U.S.—instead of automatically blocking drone takeoffs in restricted airspace (like airports, military sites, or the White House), the system now issues “Enhanced Warning Zone” alerts, based on official FAA data. While DJI devices no longer prevent flights in these areas, the ultimate responsibility now lies entirely with the operator to obtain proper authorization and fly safely and legally.
The FAA has been steadily increasing enforcement against noncompliant drone operators, recently pursuing civil penalties against 27 additional pilots for unauthorized flights, careless operations, and violations near airports. These cases highlight that real estate agents and businesses can face serious consequences when hiring unlicensed drone pilots — from fines to certificate suspensions. Working with an FAA-certified Part 107 pilot ensures aerial marketing is both professional and fully compliant (Forbes, 2024).

In a recent crackdown, the FAA issued over $300,000 in fines against drone pilots for unauthorized and unsafe operations, underscoring how costly noncompliance can be. For businesses, hiring uncertified or careless drone operators doesn’t just risk poor-quality results — it can expose clients to legal and financial liability. Choosing a certified Part 107 pilot with real-world airport experience ensures your aerial photography is done safely and within the law (Flying Magazine, 2024).

El Paso Becomes First U.S. City to Implement Fully Networked Remote ID System
In May 2023, the City of El Paso announced the successful deployment of the nation’s first fully networked Remote ID system, covering more than 500 square miles of airspace from El Paso International Airport. The system was implemented months ahead of the FAA’s broadcast Remote ID mandate, setting a national precedent for drone detection and public safety.
This initiative positioned El Paso as a model city for drone integration, supporting commercial UAS growth while enhancing emergency response and protecting privacy.
